Default Clinton v. Giuliani

Hillary Clinton (D) and Rudolph Giuliani (R) look like the front runners for the US presidency at the moment.

Given the degree of impact on Australia who the US president is and what they do in the world, if you had a vote, who would it be for, between these two?

It's a tough call for me. Firstly I'd really like to see the first woman president, and will also enjoy the laugh that will come from Bill as a former president still being called 'Mr. President' based on protocol, while his wife would be I guess 'Mrs. President,' at the same time.

But secondly, I really like Giuliani. The only criticism I have is the guy is a Republican... I'd really like to see a Democrat in the oval office, but Giuliani is such a strong candidate, and would by comparison to Bush really make Bush look like the fool he is, I really think he would do a good job.

The exciting thing is between the two candidates, I'd actually really be happy with either of them. That is a big change to the idiot we have in office at the moment, I really hope history reveals how corrupt and morally bankrupt Bush Jr is.

Well, that's a good point about Hillary.

The other candidate... Giuliani http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudy_Giuliani is probably famous or notable for a few things, to start with he took on the mafia working in the district attorney's office and made ground, but the biggest is being Mayor of New York when September 11 happened and his handling to that (which was pretty damn impressive), also he is famous for a policing strategy also known as 'zero tolerance' that on the one hand decreased crime massively in NYC but on the other hand has been criticized because of it's over use of a law and order response to real social issues.

At the end of the day, I really don't believe Americans will vote a female president or a black one or a Hispanic one. Rudy Giuliani is probably going to be it. But it sure would be interesting to see what Hillary brought to the job.

There are so many 'first' labels I think the candidate that moves beyond that will do the best.

First Black President.
First Female President.

Versus the Republican candidate.

Policy needs to overshadow those labels me thinks.

Oh i agree completely. But the thing is, just because obama IS black, doesnt necessarily mean he is liked BECAUSE he is black. If anything, the only reason he isnt leading the polls is because he is black - there are just so many racists in america that would not want him president because of this.

No, his policies overshadow his 'label' by a mile already.

The three biggest problems I see with the US are, the war in Iraq, the education system and the health system. And Obama approaches all of these areas with wisdom, honesty and integrity.

He opposed the war from the very beginning, he is a big supporter of finding alternative energy sources and his ideas on religion are incredibly refreshing.
As well as safe sex/AIDS/abortion, ethics, international relations, racism, youth/social work...

In fact, i'd say about 85% of what he says, I would agree with. He is just what is needed.

Actually Ben, I'm anticipating a curve-ball too. Since you said it - it makes sense. I don't know who it will be, but it will be interesting.
