Persecution of Toolies - who gives a crap
I got a call from a journalism student wanting to do a story on how toolies are verbally abused by schoolies and persecuted for their presence in Surfers Paradise. The example he gave was QUT students from the Gold Coast campus doing what they usually do of a friday or saturday night being go out to pubs or clubs and party.
He cited being verbally abused by schoolies and the increased police presence changing an altercation in a line for a cab for example to an encounter with police being the fault of schoolies since normally not so much police (read: easier to get away with criminal behaviour).
Having weighed this poor man's struggle, against the other issues I'd dealt with during schoolies and the cutting edge journalism he was pursuing compared to the stock stand level of journalism I have to put up with from employed professionals who have graduated uni many years ago and work for leading Australian publications...
I just had to laugh at they guy and say you know what my comment is: I don't give a ****. I did explain where the issue fit in the scheme of things, that I don't support criminal behaviour and that if he wanted to re-group... think of another story angle and call me back I would take the time to give him another shot at an interview.
So far future star of Australian journalism toolie has not called back yet. Soldier on oh defender of the downtrodden oh fighter for social justice oh caped crusader for the rights of toolies while I mock you and your people continue to suffer. If only Aung San Suu Kyi had you covering her story she may be free today.
