I'm sure many of you have seen the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and some have read the book.
Sadly, the man behind the book, Hunter S. Thompson, has died. He commited suicide by shooting himself.

You can make up your own opinions about whether what he wrote was "right" and "wrong", but i'm sure you'll all agree with me that he was a journalistic genius.

I hereby request a minutes silence, or not typing, after reading this to farewell the man who like to fire his .44 in to the hills near his house at night because it looked pretty when he did.

One of his most famous lines was: "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me."

I read that on the plane this morning in the herald and laughed a little too loud. Hopefully when I die I'll of said something they will quote me on so people reading of my death (like it will make the paper) will have something to laugh at.

great movie and book, highly recomended. The audio book he did is awsome... :gr_hail:

"Ok, let's get down to brass tacks. How much for the ape?"

And

"You can turn your back on a person, but, never turn your back on a drug. Especially when it's waving a razor-sharp hunting knife in your eye."
