The simple answer to this is yes, it is wasted on a generation that does not care.

My question is: How do you make people care? For something like Bono suggests to happen you need the numbers and full cooperation of these numbers which in itself is a massive task.

A solution I can see is to introduce a program of sorts in to schools worldwide that targets and focuses on poverty and raises the awareness of the students while they are young, which influences them to contribute to abolishing the issue at hand. This program would allow the students to take a hands-on approach and be actively involved in contributing to the cause.
