Great. Stay at Patong Beach. Not too far away fr Bangla Rd.

Besides water sports activities, there are Bungee Jumps, Go Karts, Wild Treks, very nice.

Just got bargain a bit.

definitely, everyone should stay on Patong beach. from the photos of bangla Rd it may very well be the Kuta of Thailand. Anyone know some good hotels with a party atmoshere?

Bangla rd is quite long and there are many many pubs, all open air.

1 reminder to anyone intoxicated, DO NOT RING THE BAR BELL, else you are gonna buy a round of beer for everyone at the bar. And try games like hitting a nail into the log with a sharp flat hammer. It's not ez but lots of fun.


Erm, there are many hotelsl there. As for party atmopsphere, it's more at Bangla than at the hotel.

Club Andaman is a nice hotel. Walking distance to town also.

You girls will enjoy Phuket. I'm sure you're gonna stay at Patong Beach. Beach, sun, booze. Shopping is normally pirated stuff like t-shirts, some tourist stuff like rings, necklace, stuff like that. They are normally on the rd side and you have to bargain else you're gonna pay a LOT. Time to learn how to bargain, and dont worry, they speak English.

I guess this time there will be lots of Aussies going to Phuket, normally is Brits. Just find any open air Pubs at Bangla Rd, see a crowd of happening ppl and join them.

this is just terrible, i found out about the bombings on sunday and couldn't believe it... i reckon one day the world is gonna be in some huge religious war (well, kinda is already)

personally i wouldnt go to bali just cos of all the drugs thing going on atm - the terrorist attacks put me off only slightly. Hope all goes well for ppl that planned to go to schoolies and condolences to the people affected by this tragedy.

yeah ive been too, since the first time i went over, ive always known that thats where i wanna go for schoolies, so im not gonna let the bastards win. ive been talking my mate that lives over there and he has spoken of the 'talk' and more bombings, but says most of it is just rumours, or chinese wispers like talk. of course im still alittle scared, but the security should be higher. and all my mates are still keen on going so, i just cant wait to go over, gonna love it!

yer i been b4, 2 times, most recently last year. I am the same would much prefer going to bali then to phuket but if there isnt gonna be that many people there than i dont know. I, like lots of people have some balanese friends, its probly cause they are the nice people ull ever meet, but nevamind looks like ill be going to puhket for the first time

I'm still going to Bali. There was originally nine of us going in my group but three have dropped out. One of them basically can't go due to his mum, while the other two are looking at it like LIFE > $600. The reason it's $600 is because we've already paid $874 for our trip and to cancel it costs $600 :banghead: .

I personally think we should all still go but good luck to the people going to Phuket. I like TManCK would also like to know who else is still going to Bali.

I spoke to the travel agent today and it turns out i only lose about $140 if i cancel by 30 oct. After that date it'e about $650.
I reckon i'll still go to Bali though. There are a couple of guys coming with me though, so i guess it's up to them as well. One is still happy with Bali, the other wants Phuket. Hopefully with a little bit of time i'll be able convince him, but i won't hold it against him if he won't go to Bali

its hard to say, cause its really up to the individual, before the last bombings ppl still thought it was dangerous cause of the first ones, yet other ppl didnt. its really a situation that has a personal decision. :cheer:

to true, alot of ex-bali regulars want go back now, some say its definiatly ruined (i certainly hope not) but a good example is how many people pulled out of bali for schoolies and thats a prediction of what it will be like in 2 months

it really will be the chance of a lifetime and to pass it up is stupid... the matter of it not being safe is way to contraversial... bali is just as safe as australia is!

Dont forget though, uluwatu isnt for begginnners. Im not a surfer at all but i went to check it out and had lunch at the place up on the cliff i forget the name...something Blue?

If you go but dont surf, i suggest you go down to the mouth of the cave thing at the bottom of all the stairs where the surfers enter. It looks mad.

On another note, my parents may be buying this mad villa we stayed in there as the guy who was going to buy it didnt go through with it. Maybe because of the recent bombings? They better buy it, its the best dam house ever and so cheap for what it is.

Its a big decision you have to make for yourselves, but I refuse to let terrorism affect me.. The timing is unpredictable for terrorists they strike when ever, where ever.. but personally the chance of one going off in the next two months?? MM i dont think there will be..

well obviously you have never been to the island of Bali, ryan. if only you knew what you were missing out on. its a lot cheaper then all of your other options for schoolies/leavers. i mean you are a millionaire everyday over there

i went to bali for schoolies last yr, was awesome. they had a few things on there for schoolies ppl , such a foam partys and all that, hopefully they have more this yr though. most ppl stayed at the bounty, but our whole group stayed at legian beach hotel , which was good. but a little more expensive. also most ppl headed over around 20 november till late dec

mann i just spoke to hotel and stuff then.. it's gunna be about $550 USD between 3 of us for 14 days.. and flights i'm not sure im lookin at them this weekend.. but it's lookin like 1500+ all up including everything i'd say..

yeh me and a mate are going to bali on the 01st dec and coming home on the 10th dec. We are staying at the Contiki Resort in Seminyak. We cant wait.. its gunna be awesome.

well we were originally flying with garuda and then qantus released some special and they also gave us a better deal on the hotel, so yeh we are flying qantus.

well im not sure on how many ppl will be going to schoolies in bali....hopefully all the people who were going to thailand decide to hit bali up....my travel agent told me that a big group of ppl from another school were going and everyone seems to go between the 20th nov and the 10th of dec.......so we wont be missing anyone coming really

Instead of Bali has anybody thought about looking at Singapore or Hong Kong for Your Schoolies Break.If You book early enough and get a really good deal It is worth the money not to mention plenty to see and do and a lot safer in the long term.I am headed to Singapore next month for a Holiday and looking forward to it very much.Was originally considering Bali or Phuket but I am more a bright lights big city person so the choice was Simple.By the Way I am not a schoolies week person but doing it rather belatedly(I graduated in 1996 and never got round to do the schoolies week thing)

I just got back from Phuket myself. Went there in May 06 and again from 7th Oct to 12th Oct. Just got back last night.

Lov the place so much. Just booked another 5 nights in December.

As a social worker I've visited more prisons than I can remember, and can honnestly say that our prisons today are filled with people who have more to offer society and the opposite sex than you do. Grow up already, get a clue.

It is a little unfortunate that they had all those nasty bombings in Bali these last few years but that should not put anyone off going.In fact all Australians should stick by and support the Balinese People get back on their feet.Everyone should go to Bali at least once or twice in their lives.It is an awesome place.For Me It is the only place in Asia Where I do not have any relatives to worry about.This is coming from a non schoolie by the way who is off to Singapore next week for Holidays and doing a rather belated by a decade schoolies celebration.

ya me & my friend will be staying at the Samsara from the 24th till the 13th - only us two but we are bali veterans so we already have plenty of friends up there... the clubs are gonna be great! the foam parties at bounty happen all the time not especially for leavers...

Iv been to bali 3 times before and am going back early next year as my parents are hiring a house/villa for a month. Just be prepared for all the drug offers you will get. Walking between the bounty and MbarGO on most nights which is like a 100m walk, we got offered drugs about 50 times, im not joking. They just sit on the fence like "heyy boy, mushroom? ecstacy? marijuana?"

lol i dont think we need to worry about "aussies keeping the balinese on their feet"... i know aussies make a large percentage of the bali tourist traffic but we arnt the only people who go there.. bali is a popular tourist destination worldwide and there is a LOT of dutch and japanese tourists, oh and dont forget the javanese! so dont feel like if u dont go the whole economy will crash! thats always a big misconception about bali i guess... oh well the aussie tourists are still the BEST!! hehe :givemebee

The only schoolies that do not go to Bali are the South Australian graduates instead wsting their time and money on Port Elliott,Victor Harbour,Middelton and Goolwa renting a home for a week and getting up to god knows what down there.They are so cheap it disgusts me big time.Think about it You can get a package to Kuala Lumpur or Bali for not much more than what these cheapskates are paying to go down the south coast and that is once you add the cost of passports and vaccinations into the deal.For the record I did not attend Schoolies week 1996(My time of graduating)instead going into full time work right away and fifteen months later going on my first trip alone to Singapore.

The latest information on Bali Schoolies (http://accommodation.schoolies.org.au/bali-schoolies.htm) is information from the government not to travel to Indonesia or Bali, as the Bali bombers are scheduled to be executed in early November and there is a very high threat of terrorist attack.

The Bali bombers have been executed.

If you are planning to go ahead with 2008 schoolies celebrations in Bali, please:
1. Ensure you are registered with smart traveler.
2. Review the travel advisory up until your date of travel.

The National Schoolies Website advises to follow the notification from Smart Traveler and reconsider your travel plans, avoiding travel to Indonesia for Schoolies.

We take time this year for the 88 Aussies who died in the Bali bombings of 2002 and note the names of all who died that day.

Three people died this morning, executed by Indonesia for committing the terrorist attacks known as the 'Bali Bombers.' Who cares what their names were.

Congrats on deciding to go to Bali, I've been seven times now and you can't find a better group of people anywhere on earth.

Your going to have a great time over there, there is a lot of media hype over the situation thats scared a lot of people off but you shouldn't be one of them.

My father is in Bali at the moment and he said the situation is ok but a bit more sombre than usual. AKA people are a little scared but trying to get on with their lives and holidays.

Seriously if i had the money I'd be over there now. I have many local friends over there and I know the real people of Bali, they're not the fanatics that they're made out to be in the media, actually they're nothing like the media portrays them.

I was there years before the bombings, in between the bombings and i've been after the bombings and i feel like Bali is still as safe as it ever was.

People like Dominic do nothing but worsen an already bad situation for the locals, they've suffered a lot because of people who have opinions on places they've never been.

Broman, good to hear that all is well over there! yeah i went over last year and it was all pretty peaceful.. but since you are an old hand maybe you could give me some tips on the best places to go, like essential places?! cause last time i went, we were doing the family thing..

Since it's schoolies you'll definitely want to go clubbing. Definitely check out Bounty and Paddy's if you like house music. MBarGo is a mixture of house and hip hop and is definitely my favorite club thus far on the island. Double 6 in Seminyak is a techno club that has attracted DJs like Tiesto so it has an international reputation for being a great club ... I can't really give you any more info on the club though because the night we went there was like 10 people in the entire club (Check it out one weekend i guess). Sky Garden is like a fancy club, drinks are more expensive and its set over three levels .. pretty cool atmosphere. There are literally hundreds of pubs around the island so finding a drink shouldn't be too hard. If you want to meet people challenge them to a drinking game in the pubs, haven't had anyone refuse yet haha :P Oh and the pubs are different to the pubs over here, like their tropical and outdoorsy so they rock. So yeah theres a bunch of clubs for you to check out which will keep you busy for a while.

Food wise; Tommy's Cafe (great place for lunch, iced coffees and various western foods), TJ's Mexican restaurant (great Mexican food in Poppies lane ... either Poppies 1 or 2 ... i can't remember, just ask a local), The Flying Piano (awesome steaks), Blue Ocean (Seafood restaurant on the beach in Kuta) and any of the thousands of local Warungs (cheap, great tasting local food, Warung Yogya or Jogia? is great, $2 meals), Uncle Norms (Italian Pizzas etc) ... When it comes to food, you'd know there are thousands of places you could eat. Just pick one and try it, you won't be disappointed.

In terms of entertainment its up to you, you could go white water rafting, Bungee Jumping or anything else.

Bartering is a must in Bali as you know. We got our trips for like half the advertised price just by bartering.

i've been there twice before. there was something like 20 of us who went.
had the time of our lives. you should definately go!
if i had the money i would be there right now!

best place to eat- indo national. it's run by aussies. and the best food ever!
it's near padma hotel.

best bar apart from bounty/ paddy's.. it's called 'my place'.
it's like the 4th story of some building near the bouty. it's wicked!

You guys got a Bargain.I remember twelve years ago going to get a Price Quote Staying at what was then the Ocean Blue Club with 8 Nights Accommodation Qantas Flights and Insurance for around $1700 but that was based on Peak Season.
I ended up booking but due to an interfering mother I not only lost my BALI Holiday AND HAD TO REGRETABBLY CANCEL but also my Christmas and ended up a month later in Singapore which I really hated.
I mean what sort of Holiday is Singapore for someone who didn't get to attend Schoolies Week the year before due to being a year too old.

That is Great Pricing for a week in Bali People.I paid $1300 BACK IN January 2000 for 8 Nights at the Troppo Zone flying Qantas with Insurance Transfers and Activities but I was 22 at the time taken into account so would have been well past the leavers/schoolies week age of life.I am assuming with these prices some of you are getting today You are either most likely on Garuda or Jetstar or taking an indirect routing like Singapore Airlines.

i reckon this is a better idea than going down the coast. i wish i went to bali instead of down the coast for schoolies. just be careful and dont take anything from any offers from the street vendors. they are the first people to report you if you have done something illeagal.

For Bali I recommend all of you go see your Travel Doctor about Six Weeks before Departure for any vaccinations required and for a discussion.Water Buy from the Local Coles or Woolworths before leaving Australia and You should be fine with the food there.I am no longer of the Schoolies Generation but have done my share of Asia Holidays over the years.Above All apart from anything prescribed by the Doctor Steer Clear of Any Drugs.

I live in Darwin and pretty much EVERYONE is going over. I'm talking hundreds. No joke. We all head over on the 28-29th of November and stay for a week or more.
None of us are really sure how many 'Southerners' are going, so if you are, or know of any, let me know! We'd love to hang out lol.
We're all spread around Legian, Kuta and Seminyak. So pretty much all the good places.
